Nasal polyps: They are painless, soft grape like growths from the lining of nasal cavity. Most are non-cancerous but one variant inverting papilloma has a 10% chance of undergoing cancerous transformation. See an ENT doctor if you have the condition.

after my diagnosis of rhinitis my dr said i have a nose polyp that may need removal. this has never even bothered me. is it necessary then now?

Depends: Polyps can occur with rhinitis. They tend to recur after surgery and/or treatment. Removing them is indicated if they are severely impairing your breathing or drainage of your sinus passages. If you are not convinced, take a second opinion from an allergist or otolaryngologist.

Very unlikely. : The treatement can be nasal steroids  to help reduce the size. Allergy treatment can help with preventing recurrence. Decongestants will help with swelling. Nasal surgery may be required.  Nasal enlargement is not likely.

i had a septoplasty and nose polyp removal. i don't seem to feel any benefits. is this typical? i honestly feel worse now than before.

See your specialist: Make sure you are doing everything your doctor told you to do. Make an appointment with the surgeon to discuss your symptoms and to get an exam.  You may have some swelling in there.

Nasal polyps: If you have allergies, you need to get them under control, you need to be maintained on nasal steroids to keep the polyps at bay. Find an allergist in your away, they will help you long term. There is no home therapy for this.

i had nasal polyp removal surgery four days ago. today my nose is completely blocked. can they grow back that fast?

No they don't:  You'll have some swelling and tenderness inside your nose after the surgery, but this is normal. It can take several weeks for you to fully recover.

my nose is always stuffed and sometimes it's hard to breath from it. could the enlarging of the nose be the effect of the nasal polyp?

Possibly : One nasal polyp is unlikely to do this. It can be from multiple polyps. It is more likely that  if you have been using decongestants you may have become addicted to these which can cause rebound swelling and congestions. See your doctor.

Sinusitis: Sinusitis or a foreign body in the nostril can cause a persistent nasal dishrag as can allergies.  If the discharge is malodorous (smells) the nasal cavity needs inspected by pediatrician or ENT physician.  Generally sinusitis may resolve without antibiotics, but if persists antibiotics (augmentin) may be prescribed.  If a foregin body it needs removed.

See ENT: Nasal steroids are good for allergy but also to stop growth from polyps, take decongestionants & antihistamines if not better get ENT specialist.

a recent ct scan of sinuses showed large polyp. i'm not responding to meds or nose sprays. can these go away on their own?

Accepted Answer

No: may need surgery, however that depends on how the polyp is affecting sinus/nasal drainage and your symptoms, moreover, the cause for the polyp need to be sought to prevent recurrence after removal, if that can be avoided. Confer with your doctor / ENT specialist for assessment, good luck
