can poison ivy rash look like mosquito bites?

Not usually: Poison ivy tends to involved a much large area of the skin than a mosquito bite. The blisters may not appear until 1 to 3 days later after contact.  Mosquito bites look more like a wheal or hive, poison ivy more likely bumps and blisters.

what i thought were mosquito bites continue to persist after 5 days. i think i may have  come into contact with poison ivy. what is best otc meds to  take or should i go to the doctor? benadryl and hydrocortisone are not doing the trick. advice please?

Plant dermatitis: Plant dermatitis like poison ivy will best respond to oral steroids for a 3 week course.  You should get the rash looked at to confirm the diagnosis and receive appropriate therapy.

Don't pop anything: you can just get scars. You can try aluminum acetate to dry out.

History: Spider bite : 
One lesion , rounded red maybe a spot where the bite occurred is visible as a tiny wound. 
P. Ivy: History of contact with the plant? Gardening?
Diffuse area covering multiple areas of a hand, arm, leg etc. Intense itch.
If unsure see a physician.

Different: Allergy to the sap of certain plants ("poison ivy") causes itchy areas in lines and patterns. There are likely to be small blisters. The distribution reflects the areas of contact with the sap. It is not a poison, not an infection, not contagious. Insect bites will be more discreet, isolated sores on exposed skin. Prescription cortisone cream or gel is effective for both.

i have poison ivy and i am worried that when i bit my hang nail off earlier that i spread the poison ivy internally. is that possible?

No: poison ivy is local contact allergy. It cannot spread thru blood. It is from direct contact with poison ivy sap or oil from the plant

i have what appear to be two elongated bug bites on the back of my thigh and i'm wondering if i should be concerned, if it's poison ivy.

Possible: You can have a doctor check it to see which it is, You can try some OTC Hydrocortisone cream in the meantime. If the spots are elongated like a scratch then it is more likely poison ivy.

Dermatologist: Get a dermatologist to biopsy it. If you have already seen one and weren't happy, then see a different one until you find someone that makes you feel comfortable and helps your son.

Itchy skin: The most important thing is to make sure your skin is moisturized.  You can also try an antihistamine to reduce itching and if the rash is bad or persitstant, see a dermatologist.
