Accepted Answer

Nothing: It means you need to comply with the limits that the manufacturer recommends. How it gets into you and how it rides around inside of you has nothing to do with how it can ruin your liver overnight if you swallow a fistful.  3000 mg/day is safe; obviously you're going to take it in divided doses.

if someone is on coumadin (warfarin) for a blood clot in the leg, which type of plasma protein is low?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily: A clot can be caused by prolonged sitting, or an injury to the leg with totally normal clotting factors and plasma proteins.  Certain clotting disorders may predispose to clotting or bleeding.

Accepted Answer

To a certain level: High protein diet will correct the deficiency, if any, and increase serum protein levels, mainly of albumin. However, it will not raise Albumin or total protein levels above the normal range.

: beta HCG appear seem in normal limits double test is usually i in 350. I would suggest that you ask your OB for his and the lab's normals and then the interpretation.

i'm taking accutane for severe cystic acne. i also get a lot of allergy. is it save to take allergy medication while on accutane?

I believe you are ok: These are working on different systems. The best anti-allergy medicines for you may be those that are relatively non-drying to the mucosal surfaces. Should you develop nosebleeds, get with your primary care physician. As always, i'd welcome ideas from other healthtap physicians.

Cold & allergy: You need to read the contents of the cold medicines. Soem already  have  allergy medicines inside of them as well. You shouls take your medicines you usully use for cold and the allergy medicine to your  docotor and have him/her tell you how to use them if at all, in combination.

i took a reactive allergy medication that expired in june 2014 and has been stored in my medication cabinet. is it anything bad?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: Drug manufacturers are required to put an expiration date on their products that gives a window of time when the drug formulation will be adequately potent. There is not likely to be anything dangerous in the expired medication, but it likely will not be as potent as unexpired medication and may not be effective. That being said it is a good idea to follow the dates and dispose of old medications.

Allegra or Claritin (loratadine) : Allergy medicines are usully antihistamines
first generation antihistamines like benadryl, (diphenhydramine) often make people sleepy.  Second generation drugs like Allegra and Claritin much less  commonly cause drowsiness.

what's a good alternative for bromfed (brompheniramine) allergy medication?

Accepted Answer

Depends: There are different types of bromfed..With or without decongestant..Either way other anithistamines won't make you as drowsy.Try Allegra (fexofenadine)  zyrtec or claritin(with or without sudafed)..There are generics for all of these and they are now over the counter..Just read the labels for any precautions for yourself.

it is a problem to drink alcohol after taking allergy medication?

Accepted Answer

Alcohol: Because many allergy medications can cause drowsiness, even the non-drowsy ones, it is not a good idea to drink alcohol while on one of the systemic allergy medications.  I recommend that you not drink alcohol when taking allergy medications.
