Yes: Yes, regardless of where you are in your cycle or timing of ovulation, Plan B if taken within 72 hours of unprotected or inadequately protected sex will reduce chances of pregnancy (to less than 1%).  The sooner you take it, the better, though Plan B is likely effective even as much as 5 days out.  Of course it's safer to use protection during/before sex, but Plan B is a good plan b when needed.

: If your girlfriend's period is delayed, obtain a "home" pregnancy test five days after her period is expected, as "plan B" is not 100% effective for birth control.

: It should work but the effectiveness is less than 90%. It means there is still more than 10% she may get pregnant if she ovulated on time. Unfortunately, plan B may change the timing of period this month. So if she is late, she may not be pregnant but period could be delayed due to plan B. Then urine pregnancy test should be done to rule out pregnancy if she misses period for more than 5 days.

One should do a home urine pregnancy test 3 weeks after sex. Also, use reliable forms of birth control so that Plan B will rarely be needed (hopefully never) in the future.

Maybe not, but...: Plan B can alter the menstrual vaginal bleeding for the cycle in which Plan B was taken, and sometimes the next cycle too. One should be sure to check a home pregnancy test about 3 weeks after sex, because Plan B works most of the time, but not all the time.
