Over time, always sleeping the same way allows gravity to trigger the skull deformity. If caught early, parents can maneuver the head to both sides to help resolve the issue. Some get distorted enough to need a helmet with special pads to help reshape the skull.

While we have treated a number of adults for plagiocephaly they have all been for correcting facial and forehead abnormalities. If this has been an issue would suggest you make a consultation with a craniofacial surgeon for further evaluation.

Like the flat (earthen) side of a pumpkin that has sat in a field.

Depends on severity: There are many craniofacial teams in the U.S. and all over the world. They will do the full evaluation and discuss the possible corrections. Life is never perfect, and neither are surgical corrections. If a patient is outside the maximum age that a team will treat (they are usually geared for children), the team's staff can still tell adult patients where to go for help.

Nothing to do: Plagiocephaly  means a lopsided head, mostly referring to babies who had been sleeping on one side of the head. A lumpy head in an adult does not need any treatment.
