i have read somewhere that using head and shoulders shampoo on pityriasis rosea works, is this true?

Haven't heard of it: Pityriasis rosea is usually a 6 week rash, so doesn't need treatment.  Dandruff shampoo (the extra strength selenium kind) is effective in treating tinea versicolor, which is a rash on the trunk (chest, tummy, back) that causes discoloration and some itchiness.  Haven't heard of head and shoulders helping get ride of p. Rosea.

Pityriasis Rosea: Pityriasis rosea is believed to be caused by a virus. It occurs most often in the fall and spring.
Although pityriasis rosea may occur in more than one person in a household at a time, it is not thought to spread from one person to another. Rarely, the following tests are needed:
A blood test to be sure it is not a form of syphilis, which can cause a similar rash. Rare to get PR twice.

Pityriasis rosea: There are no absolute yes or no answers in medicine.  However it would be exceedingly uncommon to have pityriasis rosea limited to the face.  In fact it doesn't usually affect the face.

Temporary: Rash with oval lesions limited to trunk. Rarely involves face or extretmities. Lasts usually 8 weeks and as long as 14 weeks. Recurrences are uncommon. Will clear a few weeks faster in some with oral erythromycin. This does not leave marks.It is not contagious.

hi i am a dark skin female currently with pityriasis rosea and some of my rashes are a bit flaky however some more appearing. i would like to ask what are the signs that the rashes are going. thank you?

: You don't mention how long you've had the rash. There is no treatment for this mild viral infection and the rash may last up to 3 months. If the rash is still spreading the rash has a way to go. Once spreading ceases, it's a sign that the rash will start clearing.

See dermatologist: You might have tried anti fungal and steroid medications which usually give relief .Pityriasis Rosea usually recurs .Better consult a dermatologist who can help you and suggests a treatment .

Sure of diagnosis: Pityriasis rosea is a self limiting disease. Usually there is an initial patch on chest or back called the herald patch. It is mostly spread diffusely on back and chest. If you look at the back at a distance you can see a x-mas tree pattern. It can be itchy. Unless severe it usually does not crack. Best way to diagnose it is to look at it.
