Follow directions: Directions are there because the medicine works optimally when done that way. I don't know what medication you're child is on but changing the directions will lessen the killing impact.

You will not...: ...Kill the pinworms you do not have.  A single dose of the pinworm medication typically prescribed will usually not have significant side effects, whether you have pinworms or not.

: No, it is NOT recommended fir use in pregnancy. Pyrantel pamoate animal studies are lacking—it possibly could be safe, but I do not recommend it for use in my pregnant patients.

Vemox; yes: Vermox is the medication for pinworms. In the U.S., Vermox is by prescription only. I have heard that in some other countries, pinworm medication is over-the-counter.

Pinworms: If you are using the OTC pinworm medication, they recommend retreating after 2 weeks. Make sure that you treat all family members, since is so easy to pass from person to person. two weeks ago i noticed i had pinworms and took over the counter pinworm medication and it failed to work, i went in and saw my doctor and he prescribed me albendazole and its been more than 72 hours and it still hasnt worked, any reason for why?

: How do you know the medication is ineffective? Do you or your family member still observe the active pinworms at and around the anus at night or you only feel itching and uncomfortable? Albendazole should be effective but you will need a second dose in 2 weeks for a complete eradication.

: Albendazole has a higher efficacy in eliminating pinworm infestation than pyrantel pamoate.  It is ideal  to have whole family get treated at the same time to prevent reinfection.

Recurrent pinworms: after treatment is most likely due to re-exposure to the parasite from contaminated dirt/sand or an infected pet.

Enterobius: Some of  pinworm larvae may hatch on the anal mucosa, and migrate up the bowel This retroinfection can lead to a heavy parasitic load and autoinfection through the anus-to-mouth route or through retroinfection often requires repeated treatment, at 2-week intervals, in order to remove the infection completely. Cleaning the house is essential and often very difficult.
