i just got pinworm meds. how long will it take for it to work and kill all worms. & what can i do to prevent it from happening again when i have a cat?

Pinworm: Treatment is 2 doses: day 1 and repeat after 1 week. Adult female worm lays eggs on perianal skin at night, this causes itching. As the person scratches the area, there is easy spread of eggs on clothes, bed linens, under nails and everywhere. So, wash your hands, all clothes, take shower every morning, don't scratch. Wash hands before preparing food, and eating. Get treatment for whole family.

do anti fungals kill hookworms. was given fluconazole and told to use lotramin? also will it spread to bedsheets, toilet seats etc. i also took otc pinworm meds. freaking out?

: No, antifungal medication such as fluconazole does not eradicate hookworms and Lotrimin is used for skin fungal infection. Hookworms are not transmitted by household stuffs such as bed sheet or toilet seat. OTC drug pyrantel pamoate eradicates pinworm but not hookworms. Albendazole and mebendazole are effective for hookworms.

on iron tabs 2months with chronic diarrhoea + average, with days of constipation and alot of anal discharge and pinworms.had meds for worms.need help?

Iron tablets: Iron tablets cangive you periods ofconstipaion and diarrhea.Stop the iron for awile and see the results

always have a piece of string hanging out from the end of my stools. is this fibre? i have taken meds for pinworms a few weeks ago. nothing moves

Need sample: This unusual fiber in your stool could be parasite, mucous, or fibrous material from your diet.  Direct observation, possibly with a microscope, would likely be required to make a positive identification.

One med does it: Generally a single treatment with a repeat in a week has been shown to give good kill. Generally the rectal itching should stop after a few days. If it continues, you should get seen again to look for signs of the worms or have a stool study done for ova and parasites.

Same dosing: I don't know about best but I typically use Ivermectin or mebendazole.

is it normal for the pinworms to still be alive and lay eggs about 6 hours of taking the meds...and for it to itch still?

Yes, and longer: It can take a couple days to get full kill of the worms, and the eggs cause inflammation on the skin on the outside of the rectum. That can take several days to resolve.

Pinworms: It is best to treat the family even if they are not showing symptoms. Because they can get the pinworm eggs under their nails to start the lifecycle of the pinworm all over again.

doc rec only 1/2 dose mebenzadole for pinworm 200mg, cos i reacted to other med, should i take the second tab next day since no reaction or wait 1 wk?

Pinworms: I recommend taking the full dose now and the second dose on schedule in 2 weeks. Good hygiene after bowel movements is very important and in adults, that is sometimes all that's needed to clear the infection.

No meds, no relief: You have to take meds to get rid of pinworms.  They are not just going to go away.
