Wrapping: Use capsaicin patch if this is a old stress, Lidocaine patch if this a recent stress and wrap with unna ooot strips (calamine soaked gauze) cover with webril and tubular stretch bandage - for swelling we use grey foam on top with acewrap to give extra comfort and pressure - this is called complex decongestive therapy will be performed by people trained in this contact you local physical therapist.

You need to follow through with the  hand surgeon.

Rest, splint: Unusual orthopedic question as isolated thenar muscle injuries are unusual.If that is really your diagnosis ( not a hook of hamate fracture or other) than my treatment would be a removable thumb spica splint, nsaids and rest from further injury.If pain continued after2-3 wks and mechanism of injury warranted it, repeat x-rays ( including carpal tunnel view) or consider further radiologic studies.
