how to make pink eye swelling go down so i can go to work?

Time and meds: Time is needed for the sx of pink eye to resolve. Although pink eye can be a viral process, it's often tx'd with antibiotic eye drops & you'd generally need to see a doctor to determine if it's bacterial or not. Lubricating drops can help w/ some sx, and otc antihistamine drops sometimes help some patients, for allergic conjuctivitis & even sometimes other types.  Hope you feel better soon.

eye was super red and tender.  urgent car doc said saw something w/blue light and was on the fence about er asap. but he gave drops for pink eye and rx for herpes. was improving but 3 days out there's a new hard swelling under eye. what could this be?

Possilble: It could be allergic or infectious Conjunctivits so try using warm compress and if it does not get better in 2 days then try  to see a doctor for a correct dignosis.

Try a different med: Typically you should be seeing an improvement by four days of treatment. If it is continuing to worsen go back to the prescribing physician for consideration of different eye drops. Controlling the swelling is secondary to treating the infection appropriately.

my sister started taking medicine for pink eye a week ago. the swelling has gone down, but there is mucus, and sometimes they bleed. is that normal?

Yes: Pink eye typically refers to viral conjunctivitis, an infection that can sometimes be quite severe.   The symptoms your sister is experiencing are among the more severe, but they will resolve.  Otc preservative-free artificial tears can be helpful for symptomatic relief.

No: Pink eye is a condition of the covering of the eye.  You may have redness of the eye and colorful drainage.  Perhaps eve some swelling of the eyelid but it does not extend down the cheek.
