Interesting term?: A mensicus usually refers to the cartilage in the knee.  If the cartilage comes loose and bend or moves as the knee is moving, then it can get caught in the joint between the bones, and will be pinched.  This can cause pain, can cause a piece to be broken off and get loose in the knee and can cause problems for you.  If you are concerned, see an orthopedist or your pcp.  May need more diagnostics.

Help negate reinjury: A pinched or torn meniscus can cause pain. The torn meniscus can get caught with motion across the joint as the loaded knee flexes and extends. This could cause further damage to the meniscus. The goal of the brace is to limit the risk of further injury or damage to the already injured meniscus.

Days to Weeks: Usually your symptoms should resolve very quickly after surgery.  If you ate still symptomatic 6 months later,  you should have a re-evaluation. You may need PT or other treatment.

i had an acl and meniscus reconstruction september of 2012. surgery was successful however the last few months i get a sudden pinch and now constant?

See surgeon: Glad your ACL surgery was successful. If your ‘pinch’ is a feeling of pain and becoming more constant you should see your ORS for examination. May be nothing more than a bit of tendinitis or more significant ( scar tissue building up in knee—‘cyclops’ lesion) or related to previous meniscus work. Best to have it checked!

Not directly: No, it will not help directly, but if with diet and exercise it allows you to lose weight, so of the symptoms associated with those other conditions may improve or even go away. Excess weight aggravates many conditions, including the ones you mention.

See below: A meniscus is a structure that is made of cartilage and serves as a cushion between two bones.  The knee has two: one medial and one lateral.  Sometimes they can tear through degeneration or injury.  The term residual means that there is “still” a tear; suggesting a persistent tear.  This term can be used if someone has had prior surgery, or even if they have had a previous mri to compare to.

Irregular: A healthy meniscus will have relatively sharp borders.  A lobular shape is irregular and suggests the possibility of a tear or degeneration.  Discuss the specifics of your case with your doctor.

Probably not: It depends how the meniscus tear is affecting your function. Mri's often show signal changes that can be interpreted as a tear by the radiologist reading it.  If you have localized joint pain, swelling, locking or giving way then you likely need arthroscopic surgery.  I have had many people who have had  knee or shoulder surgery rehab and joint the armed forces.

Yes: A cadaveric meniscus can be sewn in place of your damaged one. This treatment has its own limitations and may not work.
