Because it can: And does happen.  An inflammed oil gland or hair follicle is common, .  Keep it protected with a band aid, clean and use warm compresses.  It should resolve.  Don't manipulate it.

A picture please!: It may be one of a variety of things. For example it may be shingles, or possibly impetigo or .Psoriasis then again it may be fungal or viral. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Pimple: If its a small pimple antibiotic cream can be tried .If swelling/redness spreads or pain increases or start getting fever or generally feel unwell then oral antibiotics might be needed and would be time to consult doctor.

Rash: The most common things would be bacterial or fungus infection. Bacteria cause a red tender warm site. Fungus cause red dry itchy spot that may spread outward. There are a few other possibilities so you should get it checked by a doctor to get the right treatment.

Good Evening: There is several reasons why you could be having this issue. I would like to see a picture to have a better idea how this looks like.

Has it changed in color or size, does it itches or burns?
One possibility is that you had a previous trauma that created a callus on the bone.
If you could explain with more detail when and how it started i could help you better.
I recommend you to have an x-ray.

Small abscess...: most treatment for that type of lesion involves draining it and then applying alcohol followed by antibiotic cream or ointment three times daily x 7 days

See your doctor: Without seeing them, it is hard to diagnose, so you really should see your own doctor or a dermatologist. They could be warts, molluscum (in the wart family), sebaceous cysts or other. Don't open them yourself; you could cause an infection. A physician should be able to diagnose them properly and give you the proper treatment.
