Oral antiviral drugs, such as acyclovir and several others, are effective in preventing outbreaks of cold sores, decreasing the severity of sores, and shortening the healing time of sores. Topical lip balms with anti-viral abilities can help, but not as much as the oral medications do.

on sat saw tiny red bump on lip line. thought cold sore, started acyclovir pills & cream. the red bump grew, didnt burst, i popped it, long white head/pus followed by clear liquid. still no scab or oozing despite pills, how will i know its healed?

: It has been 5 days with pills and cream treatment as well. It may not scab. If the skin is all intact and no open wound from the popping, you can consider it healed.

Prevent v. Treat: I imagine you do not want to stop Accutane yet. Treating your dry lips would be the plan. I like eltamd lip balm spf 31 or colorscience lip shine  spf 35 for rx. At night time a generous slather of vaseline will suffice.

: You can take but it may not be effective because both medications are almost the same drug. If lip swelling gets worse or you have breathing issue, go to urgent care. Good luck.

Herpes: This might be the beginning symptoms of a cold sore, which is csused by a herpes virus, which can be spreadby kissing.  Try abreva over the counter or see a dr to get a prescription for valacyclovir.

i started claravis isotretinoin. i took 11 pills so far of 40mg. the side effects are just not worth it to me i have decided to stop. i have severly dry lips and facial skin. how long will it take to rid it out of my system. thank you in advance?
