Could be blocked: urinary catheter could be blocked  by a clot or a kink.or You may be experiencing  bladder spasmcaused by the ballon in your bladder which holds the catheter in place.
Make sure you clean your hands before you check your catheter check if there are any kinks in tubes look in the urine sack for any changes in color  of urine and call you doctor for help with the spasm there are medications for that

Nephrostomies: It depends on the reason for the bilateral nephrostomies.  Often there is something obstructing the forward flow (often the prostate, bladder mass or stones) and the Foley catheter can bypass it enough to drain some urine.

No worries: Typical urinary tract infections are not transmitted by touch nor by sitting on things. That is because the germs cannot crawl up a person's urethra just by being on that person's body. There has to be an element of bad luck, or a "predisposing" bodily condition that makes a urinary tract infection likely to happen, before one needs to worry about catching a UTI merely through touching germs.

my son has a suprapubic catheter in but instead of his urine draining into the bag, it leaking into his nappy. everytime he passes urines through his penis it seems to cause him pain but then it goes away. does this mean his catheter is blocked?

Normal: There are a variety of aches and pains that come and go during the recovery period of a traumatic event such as an abdominal operation. These will eventually fade away in the coming 6-8 weeks. May have some residual. Also very common to become fatigued easily for weeks to months, but there is high variability of this. You can always check with your surgeon as well. Hope this helps!
