Consider 3 factors: Thrush is a yeast infection. Antifungal medications help.  Scraping the tongue is important... Use a tongue scraper and avoid foods and beverages with yeast such as beer and breads. It will usually clear up in 2 weeks but if it persists more aggresive actions can be employed.

Highly unlikely: The yeast that usually causes thrush (candida albicans) is very common, and as long as the immune system is normal, it does not cause any disease or symptoms.  If the immune balance of the mouth is affected by illness, medications such as prednisone or antibiotics, dentures, or even dryness, then thrush can occur.

Newborn:"Thrush" ?: It is best to have a pediatrician examine your 3 wks. old infant.  There are infections which can appear similar to "thrush".
