Painful groin nodes: Most probably something else as nodes are silent.  In the groin area, one can develop an inguinal hernia, which can allow a part of your intestines to drop through a passage way into the testicle area of your groin.  If this occurs it can cause the problems you have outlined.  See your doctor for an examination, because if it is an inguinal hernia, it does not go away by itself-surgery indicated.

ex partner had herpes. i'm experiencing swollen l-nodes in groin, itch & tingle (all mild) but many drs won't test unless visible lesions.what to do?

Symptoms not herpes: Herpes sores often itch, tingle, or cause inflamed lymph nodes, but by themselves, these don't suggest herpes. That said, Public Health Canada has a head-in-sand attitude about HSV blood tests, which therefore aren't done frequently. In my opinion, you should be tested because of exposure, but not because of your symptoms. However, my bet is you weren't infected and your test would be negative.

Usually nothing.: This is the place where enlarged lymph glands are most often found.  If not tender or hard, and if they are under 1 cm in diameter there usually is no problem.  If that is not the case, or if there are other symptoms like fever, night sweats or weight loss, they might need to be biopsied.

It is always a good: sign that something that was previously inflamed and swollen has improved spontaneously, aka without active treatment.  However "straining" your groin would not be a usual cause for swollen lymph nodes-- the swelling could have been due to inflamed muscle fibers or inguinal ligaments... Monitor the situation closely but if things have improved, I would not be too worried.  Thanks.

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

See a doctor.: That sounds like it needs to be seen. Nodes can get infected but there are also glands in the same area that get infected. Either way tender enlarging lesions need to be seen. You may need antibiotics or even drainage and packing.

Hard to say: There are several possible cause of such symptoms. The best approach is to see your doctor for a complete exam. They may wish to get a ct scan depending on the results of the findings on exam.
