Holistic training: PMR training is a 4 year post medical school residency that graduates doctors with diagnostic and treatment training in muscle, nerve, brain function.  coordination, balance, cognition, joint function, self care skills, mobility, work ability, reaction time can all be affected adversely by orthopedic or neurological disease. We treat those problems and improve independence.

Different: A physiatrist is a medical doctor who takes a history, reviews your records, & examines you to identify the source of your pain & give a medical diagnosis. A physical therapist can evaluate your neck and design therapies (stretching, strengthening, manual therapy, heat, traction, electrical stimulation, joint mobilization).  Best to get a diagnosis first, them customize therapy for the diagnosis.

Leg weakness: Your question is complex because there are many possible reasons for leg weakness, from sites in the brain to cervical cord to thoracic cord, to cauda equina, to peripheral nerve or neuromuscular problems.  My first suggestion would be to see a neurologist who can evaluate more broadly first and work up and then direct or refer to an appropriate surgeon.

Most pm&r speicialists (physicatrist) specialise in particular disorders such as spinal cord or brain injury, nerve injury or musculosckeletal injury, or occupational health, or children's physical problems.

Not at all!: Addiction medicine is focused on caring for patients with addictive diseases.  Pain management is focused on caring for patients with pain.  They overlap when an addict also has pain.  People are more complicated than our artificial divisions of expertise.

Different w overlap: Chiropodists are foot and ankle technicians, while podiatrists are foot and ankle physicians. Chiropractors are more into whole body functioning with body adjustments and manipulations, with no surgery nor prescription medication.  Psyiotherapists are another term  for physical therapists who rehab injuries.  Osteopaths have become similar to MDs and are physicians that have  manipulation expertis
