Should work for both: Rectum is the natural habitat for the pinworms.  However, they crawl out and lay eggs around rectum and near vaginal opening resulting in itching  over these areas.

You should be able to be 'cured' easily with a medicine your doc gave you (mebendazole). The key is your partner and the environment - where did these eggs come from and how to AVOID re-infection. Eggs can last 2 to 3 weeks- and you need a second round of medication at that time, incase anything's alive
