i want to know what is the difference between stomach aches from holding in gas and period cramps?

Both hurt: But the cramps from menstruation are from your uterus.  And the ones from gas are in your entire abdomen and pelvis and change with the passage of gas.  The cramps from your mestruation don't change with passing of gas.  They change with the passage of time and are related to your menses.

Various medications: Cramping is caused by contractions of the muscle of the uterine wall and these contractions are caused by the release of a chemicals called prostaglandins.  These chemicals are released with the period. Nsaids are mediations that can prevent the production of prostaglandins. Ibuprofen, Naproxen and even Aspirin are examples. They work best if you start them before the pain starts.

Dysmenorrhea: Abdominal and/or low back pain with menstrual cycle is very common and can be disabling. Talk to your doctor about using oral contraceptive that will resolve this problem.

Helping with period: pain: try ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), starting 1-2 days before your period every 6-8 hours. Making your period lighter is not as easy. Both issues may be helped with hormonal treatment, i.e. birth control pill. Please see you primary care doctor or your gynecologist to discuss this further.

: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

Cramps: if the cramps and loose stools came while on your cycle then this from a hormone called prostaglandin and is normal.  ibuprofen is and anti-prostaglandin and will help with the next cycle.
