Normal: What you describe is a normal variation on menstrual bleeding pattern. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco or alcohol in any form. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

Check a test: Since you are late and the period seems abnormal, check a 
Refinance test to make sure. It will probably be negative, which means you had a delay in ovulation, it should correct over the next cycle.

Color varies: The color of menstrual blood varies and is not usually something we pay a lot of attention to. If your period is coming at the usual time this this is likely your period. If your periods are irregular consider seeing an Obgyn to discuss options for regulation

Pos pregnancy test?: Did you ever have a positive pregnancy test?  It is possible that you were briefly pregnant, but it did not attach for very long, and that is why a urine pregnancy test was negative.  I suggest you be seen for an exam to make sure you don't have a vaginal infection, or other gynecologic problem like ovarian cysts or fibroids.  And you may want to ask if a serum pregnancy test is needed.

Can call her doctor: An unusually long menstrual period leads to excessive blood loss especially if beyond 10 days. One should contact her primary care doctor or Ob-Gyn doctor to ask when she should be seen, in case she needs medication to stop the excessively long period. If she has no doctor, and has continued menstrual flow, she can visit an urgent care clinic and might need a pregnancy test or hormonal medication.

: The brown blood may just be because of oxidation of the blood outside of the vessels if there is no blood poisoning. It may not be a bad thing unless you have inhaled or taken things in food that could poison the blood.

If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Your hormone levels vary from month to month and the causes of irregular bleeding can be hormonal or related to stress, tension, anxiety or illness. Oral contraceptives can be prescribed by your GYN to regulate your cycle
