Skin peeling : Interesting how it causes pain in the leg. I wonder if there is inflammation of a nerve as a result of a  skin problem, ascending up. This needs to be seen in person to be better understood

Accepted Answer

Depends on cause...: One's primary care doctor can check for medical causes. If none are found, then one can see a dermatologist, especially one specializing in hair restoration (some treatments: minoxidil, etc, ...). Medical causes may include: hormonal problems (low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, stressful illness. Other causes: genetic male/female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium.

3.5 weeks postop foot surgery and have excessive skin peeling that extends up to an inch away from incision. is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: Your use of the word "excessive" implies it is not normal, and so if your concerned about it I would let your surgeon know.  That being said, some degree of skin peeling is normal when skin is covered by a bandage or cast as the covering of the skin prevents the usual loss of the epidermis the usual and more gradual way.  The skin prep itself that was used during surgery can also contribute.

Uncertain.: This can't be diagnosed with the information that is available. A history, physical examination &amp; other studies may be needed to determine cause/causes. Once accurately assessed a treatment plan can be developed.

What are: the 2 diagnosis. Can you show the rash . Will be concerned with scabies or contact dermatitis or impetigo but without picture or diagnosis of the previous Dermatologist or the treatments that did not work it is just a guess.
