i had a epidermoid cyst removed via minimal excision plus cellulitis. the area is healing but there is dry peeling skin on wound and around it where bandage was. can i put moisturizer on it or should leave it alone? it itches a little?

Accepted Answer

Timing: Itching is a sign of healing. Would not put anything on skin till wound is at least 5-7 days old other than gentle cleaning to remove dry skin. Once that time has passed can use skin lotion or Vitamin E but still not directly on wound. Vitamin C 500mg a day, Vitamin D 2000 units per day and Zinc 30mg a day all help wound healing.

day 6 on bactrim antibiotics for cellulitis on my tush. is it normal for skin to peel and bleed?  does this  mean it's healing ?

Cellulitis: It is normal for the skin to peel with cellulitis. Please send photo to be sure it is not worsening with the bleeding part. Did you mark the area with a black marker to see if injection is extending borders? Send photo asap to help be sure it is not worsening. Do you have any fevers.

i had a minimal excision two weeks to remove a epidermoid cyst. its healing. do i need to keep cleaning it everyday with soap ? my skin is peeling nearby it but figure its part of healing. i had a bad case of cellulitis but that cleared?

You are doing well!: A 2-week-old healing wound can be washed with soap and water. It should be kept clean &amp; you should avoid injuring the area until it is fully healed. Prior cellulitis is probably the reason the cyst was removed. This doesn't mean that you should expect a problem with healing. Peeling of skin that has been injured by cellulitis is normal, like peeling after a sunburn. Hope this helps.

my skin on my lower leg is peeling after a treated case of cellulitis. i took keflex 14 days and its been about 3days since ending rx and skin is peeling as though it was sunburned. is using palmers for dry skin ok to use. will this peeling go on?

: The peeling is harmless and probably will stop in a few days. It's nothing to worry about. (Palmer's cream might not help much, but it isn't harmful, so feel free to use it.)

Antibiotics: You should be seen by infectious disease physician . You may have possible of either resistant organisms , associated tinea infection , any  dm or associated vascular factors that contributing recurrent infection.

No: Newborns, especially those born after their due date tend to have peeling skin within the first two weeks of life. This is a normal process and is not cause for alarm, nor does it require treatment or skin moisturizer. The peeling will soon give way to baby soft skin. Once you start bathing your baby, you can follow her bath with small amount of fragrance free lotion if needed.

SUNTAN: The damage to your skin was done. Do nothing except moisturizer until gone. If redness is noticed after sun exposure, you may apply a thin layer of steroid cream to avoid peeling of skin,  you will notice the inflammation will go away.
