Yes: Every child 6 months and older should get a flu shot to help prevent influenza. Complications of influenza include ear infections, sinusitis, wheezing, pneumonia, hospitalization, and yes, even death. If a parent can decrease the chances of those complications by one or two little shots, the shots would be a good idea. Kids who have contact with many other kids will have more chances to catch flu.

See a podiatrist: Corns are callouses on the toes and are caused mainly by shoe irritation over a period of time.  They can just be trimmed by a podiatrist, but will usually come back. The real cause is bony enlargement or malpositioning of the toe. There is a real simple surgery to smooth off the underlying bone and the corn should go away permanently. You can also have your shoes stretched or wear wider shoes.

after the removal of my ingrown toenail via a pediatrist procedure how long should i wait before going into a lake to swim?

Nail Surgery: Normal activity levels may cause you pain and increase the swelling of the affected toe, if began too soon. Resume normal, light activities after giving your foot a day or two to heal and the pain subsides. Refrain from running, jumping and other strenuous activities for at least two weeks after surgery.
Wait at least 7 days before going in a lake. After 2-3 days you can go in a swimming pool.

X-ray: Have the foot x-rayed to make sure there are no structural issues that are contributing to the pain. Your shoe gear could also be contributing. Ice and rest until you can be seen by the doctor

Depends on the : Material. There is usually a brochure that is given when dispensing orthotics explaining this.

Maybe: If he's lost 40lb in 6months, he's lost approximately one and two thirds pounds per week, which is a good weight loss rate.  His bmi at his current height and weight is around 17-18, which is very thin.  If he's just trying to be healthy, that's fine.  If he continues to lose weight he will not remain healthy, and he's at risk for an eating disorder.  Have you asked him if he thinks he's too fat?
