Very common: Usually from allergies, picking on the nose, blowing nose too hard, constant rubbing etc. As long as there are no associated signs and symptoms like bruising , prolonged bleeding , cuts slow to heal, petechia or getting tired easily and he is healthy, then just treat the allergy. If + for above, need to see doctor to run test  to rule out blood disorders.

Bacterial &amp; viral infections can ^ risk as well as bleeding disorders.  Recurrent nose bleeds may be due to broken vessel in the nose. Alcohol / cocaine abuse can cause nose bleeds, as can tumors.

In most cases: The bleeding for most patients are from the front of the septum. Lean forward (so you won't swallow your own blood) and pinch the nostril with your isilateral thumb on the side that is bleeding for 10-15 minutes will usually stop the bleeding. Decongestant spray like afrin (oxymetazoline) can also help. If the bleeding continue and is severe, you'll need to go the emergency room for treatment.

most recurrent nose bleeds are easily treatable by an ENT doctor.

It can...: Any anticoagulation medication can cause nosebleeds.  If these are minor and infrequent, it may not be worht the risk of stopping the medication, depending on why it was started.  Occassionally nosebleeds may be severe enough to warrant stopping this type of medication, but this is rare.  Talk to your doctor about this.
