You decide: Pectus varies in severity. I see that you are an adult. If you want it repaired for cosmetic reasons, or your physician says it is interfering with something in your chest, get with a subspecialist who does these procedures.

Likely nothing: If you have symptoms, see a thoracic surgeon/ and r pulmonologist, more to be sure something else is not an issue.
In children with specific signs symptoms some will, be repaired, but not in adults.
Some plastic surgeons will hide the pectus, but that is not a repair.

Yes: There is still chest wall mobility.
As one grows, the tissues can still change and the depth of the excavatum may exaggerate.
Some other symptoms may occur as well  as one ages.

will bulking up affect a pectus excavatum?

Accepted Answer

Not really: But pectus can make the bulked up pectoralis muscles look assymetric.  Also bulking up may make the pectus look worse if the pectoralis muscles as well as the abdominal muscles become more bulky, and the sunken sternum looks more sunken.  Could also be coincidental if bulking up is done during teen years when the pectus is getting worse by itself.

NO: Pectus ex. Is a congenital deformity of the chest wall.  If you build up your pec muscles the severity of the deformity may appear to be greater merely because the muscle is enlarged but it does not make the structural deformity worse.
