i have pcos with low estrogen and prog. how would my gyn increase my estrogen? i heard bcp is bad because it will decrease my estrogen even more.

Not likely: If you are not trying to conceive, then birth control pills are best to help prevent conversion to testosterone as well as to help prevent uterine cancer. Women with pcos often have elevated estrogen, not low estrogen. Maybe consider going to gynecologist again to make sure that you have the right diagnosis. Again, if you are trying to conceive then bcp not indicated.

Possible: Hashimoto is an autoimmune condition involving the thyroid, thus the thyroid function test may well be normal the early stage although you will eventually end up with a low thyroid function.

are there any birth control pills available to treat pcos that are low in estrogen/estrogen-free? i have migraines and am currently on yaz, and want to reduce my stroke risk. i'm in college and the obgyn clinic here on campus  is very unhelpful.

Hmmm...: Short answer is yes: there are low-estrogen oral contraceptives. Not sure you'd want to do that, though. First, the ovarian cysts can only be controlled if ovulation is stopped, and this requires taking estrogen to inhibit pituitary FSH release. Without estrogen the cysts might rage out of control. This estrogen must (I believe) be balanced with progesterone and testosterone, EVEN in PCOS patients

: The hormonal patterns in PCOS are complicated but,surprisingly, estrogen levels are usually within normal range. This may partly be explained by the fact that some of the usually high levels of testosterone seen in PCOS patients is converted to estrogen.

Pcos: Women with pcos more frequently have higher estrogen levels.  The problem however is compounded by an excess of androgen hormones e.g. Testosterone that causes many problems.  Also women with pcos tend to develop hyperinsulinism that make matters much worse.  Pcos  requires careful medical attention to maintain health.

Hyperandrogenism: Acne in women with pcos is caused by hyperandrogenism (too much male-type hormones) including testosterone, produced by the ovaries. Insulin resistance promotes hyperandrogenism. Treatments include Insulin sensitizers like metformin if you're trying to conceive, or birth control pills and anti-androgens like spironolactone if not ttc. 'low progesterone' occurs in women with pcos who don't ovulate.

Not ovulating: With PCO, the ratio of LH to FSH is 2:1 or higher. It sounds like you are not ovulating. You need to talk with your doctor about treatment options.

PCOS: It sounds plausible you may have PCOS if you have had hormone testing, BUT in most PCOS the estrogen is high, not low as you describe.  There are other causes of elevated androgens that should be tested.  If another problem is found, or if PCOS is confirmed then treatment should be given.  Seek a second opinion.

Many things: Poor quality of ovarian follicles, resistant ovarian follicles, premature ovarian failure (all of these would be unusually rare at your age) or disorders that adversely impact hypothalamic or pituitary function such as anorexia or people with very low body fat from activities such as marathon running.
