i have small red dots on roof of my mouth toward the back of my throat. my mouth is dry and tongue is red with white coating in parts. my throat hurts?

Not normal: The symptoms you described sound like thrush, a yeast infection of the mucus membrane lining the mouth and tongue, also called oral candidiasis. Oral candidiasis can be treated with topical anti-fungal drugs, such as nystatin, miconazole, gentian violet or amphotericin b. Topical therapy is given as an oral suspension which is washed around the mouth and then swallowed by the patient. See a doctor.

i've got an extra piece hanging off of my uvula (bell in throat). i've had it for years now. what could it be?

Rule out papilloma: An extra tag of skin on the uvula may be a papilloma.  This is a viral infection that may have happened long ago.  If it is asymptomatic, leave it alone. But if is causing any symptoms such as pain, gagging, difficulty in swallowing, it is extremely safe and easy to remove it.

Dead skin: The white chunky stuff is basically the equivalent of dead skin, probably caused by an infection. It'll slough off when the infection clears.

Surgery: If you truly feel the uvula in the back of your throat and it is objectively diagnosed as a wide and elongated uvula, and if snoring or early sleep disorder is present, then simple surgical removal which takes about 10 seconds may solve your problem.  If you do not want surgery, then have your physician try 5 to 7 days of steroids.

Yes but snore?: It is not uncommon to have a long uvula but it can become problematic if swollen or causing sleep obstruction. This is commonly reflected by snoring.

Not usually: You do have lymph nodes on the back wall of the throat that could be enlarged, sometimes you can see the outline of spinal vertebrae. It could be other things, as well.  However, you really need to get this checked out with your doctor if it has been there for a whild.

Yes: The uvula is mobile and often helps with diagnosing such diseases as stroke, strep throat and abscesses. As well as moving laterally, it moves up and down. It helps to assess the health of a cranial nerve. All the best.

Doctor can evaluate: New throat symptoms can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or mild flu (antibiotics are not used), or from another cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the throat symptom is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away in a day or two (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat tightness from a food allergy can be an emergency problem.
