Agree w Dr. Fried.: Regularly drinking soda has been linked to Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, Diabetes, heart disease &amp; metabolic syndrome. Other possible risks include: increased weight, decreased bone mineral density (BMD) obesity, erosion of tooth enamel, mineral depletion &amp; dehydration. If it contains artificial sweeteners &amp; is used daily, this is linked to a 3 fold ^ in dementia &amp; stroke.

Fine: 4-5 cans of soda a week should be fine.  In a rare case, people have severe underlying acid indigestion/gerd/peptic or gastric ulcer disease, and drinking even a few cans be aggrevating.

Phenylalanine: Coke Zero contains the following:  Carbonated water, caramel, phosphoric acid, aspartame (which contains phenylalanine).  The ammino acid is known to effect your taste.  One thought I would have is perhaps you have been eating something more acidic prior to when it taste "funny" as aspartame breaks down easier in an acidic enviroment.

Maintaining a stable and controlled blood suger level is the goal, not the amount of coke zero.

Acid reflux..: Most likely de to acid reflux or better known as heartburn caused by the caffeine in it. If you want to avoid this symptom try to avoid caffeine in your beverages.

Esophageal spasm: While Coke Zero can be delicious, there are ingredients which can trigger muscle spasm in the esophagus, which really can happen with almost anything.  But the carbonation and "zing" in Coke may trigger it more often. It can be very painful. It may never happen again.  Just take a deep breath, try to relax to relax the spasm, and drink some water if able.
