Drainage: Pseudocyts are fluid collections that arise after pancreatic necrosis secondary to acute pancreatitis.  Most resolve on their own, but if large, persistent and/or symptomatic, they can usually be drained by nonsurgical endoscopic techniques.  Cysts are usually benign but may be cancerous:  endoscopic ultrasound and aspiration are sometimes necessary to differentiate the two.

Imaging: These are usually picked up on ct or ultrasound. They can further be evaluated by ct pancreas protocol, mri/mrcp, eus, ercp.

Not likely: Pancreatitis or damage to the pancreas can result in a fluid collection around the pancreas, called a pseudocyst. Most of these fluid collections resolve on their own over time. Rarely the cysts can become very large, cause a lot of pain, or even cause internal bleeding or dangerous internal infection (abscess). Fortunately these last conditions do not occur that often, and rarely life threatening.

i have a 1inch pseudocyst in the body of my pancreas.my dr. believes its caused by my gallbladder & wants to remove it, i don't agree but should i do it?

Get another opinion: Pseudocysts can resolve without treatment, & may not need addressing if they are small & asymptomatic. If you have had pancreatitis due to gallstones (which is one way you get a pseudocyst), that is a serious issue & should be treated by removing the gall bladder. Once the gall bladder is full of stones & inflammation it doesn't work normally & can cause many serious problems.

Pseudocyst: It depend if you really had pancreatitis or not. Your imaging need to be reviewed by a pancreas expert for the pancreas and gallbladder.

Really Depends: Heather - pancreatic pseudocysts run different courses. For a young person, such as yourself, they most often arise after a traumatic event, though there are other causes.

It really depends on a multitude of factors, including which part of the pancreas it is arising from, the size, the adjacent organs, its progression, ...

on a ct with contrast of abd/pelvis it say "hypodensity in the pancreatic head may represent ipmn or small pseudocyst. slightly prominent pancreatic ?

Need more info: Would need more information to answer this. Why was the CT scan being performed? Pain? Pancreatitis? Some radiology findings are just incidental and have no clinical meaning. Ask your doctor who ordered the test if there is a concern for you. May need to see a GI specialist for endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound of the pancreas.
