Pretty Handy.: More than likely, your hand has suffered some soft tissue damage. If the x-rays were taken immediately after the altercation, a stress fracture may has been unable to detect at that time. This could contribute to the swelling you are having now. It may be to late for the therapeutic effects of RICE now. (Rest, ice, elevation and compression.) You can try moist heat. See a doctor if no improvement.

Exclude infection: It is rare to have swelling in this area, and the first thing to be excluded would be an infection; as you are in Belize, I would consider also unusual, slow growing infections such as those in the tuberculosis family, called 'atypical mycobacteria' some of which are present in marine environments. Hand infections can be serious, so please seek qualified medical attention.

See PCP: Usually there is a reason. If no history of fall or trauma then consider inflammatory conditions. Insect bites can also start with swelling but are assciated with redness. See your pcp as catching things early leads to quicker control and recovery. In meanwhile rest, elevate hand and use nsaids.
