Urethral diverticula: The  swelling  may be  a urethral diverticulum that occurs under the urethra. Sex is not  a cause but  you need  an examination to determine the cause

Ouch: That sounds painful.  The most common lesion like this in the vagina is going to be a Bartholin's gland cyst, if it's really big, then it could definitely extend up as high as you describe.  I would see a doctor or clinic asap and they can possibly drain this for you and relieve the pain that you are feeling. Regardless, an exam is warranted. Hope you feel better soon!

Cyst: Swelling at the opening of the vagina can be a Bartholin's gland cyst.  When the duct becomes blocked, fluid accumulates.  They can frequently become infected and cause an abscess with tenderness.  Treatment usually involves opening the cyst to allow drainage and can be performed in the office with local anesthetic.  Consult your physician for further evaluation.

why is my vagina irritated and now bleeding after sex? the opening to my vagina has been very irritated and itchy all week. no swelling or redness. it has been dry as well. i had sex this morning, it was sort of painful. and i immediately started bleeding

It : It sounds like you are dealing with a vaginal yeast or bacterial infection. Since your vagina is dry and irritated the tissue is inflammed and having sex can irritate the tissue further thus causing bleeding. I recommend you visit a doctor for evaluation and treatment. If that is not an option for you, you can try an over the counter yeast infection medication like Monistat or clotrimazole. If you do that and your symptoms do not improve then you definitely need to visit a doctor.

Verify: Sometimes a “cut” is just a cut. These heal on their own. Other times a “cut” is something else though - some common causes are genital herpes, yeast infections and lichen sclerosis. See an Obgyn to help verify the diagnosis. The proper treatment can be prescribed and recommended

Very rarely: Unless you have a very rare condition, swelling of the vagina and vaginally opening won't be permanent. The vagina can swell alot due to trauma or some infections/irritants but this does go away. Hope this helps.
