: There are various of methods of placing a ureteroscope.  It may be placed directly through the urethra, or it may be passed though a sheath. The technique is dependent upon various factors, such as surgeon's preference, or anatomical considerations. i have excruciating pain in left urethra and kidney. i had stent installation after ureteroscopy. is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes: About 10% of patients can have extreme discomfort and/or bladder spasms from a jj stent. Should not need to be in place for very long after ureteroscopy so your urologist can probably should remove it now. It could possibly be replaced by a shorter stent if you still need to have one in place.

can a pediatric cystoscope be used on an adult male if the length is long enough? can a ureterscope be used to remove a ureteral stent? my ureterscopy with stent placement traumatized me and i want to minimize urethral discomfort post removal?

: Ureteroscopy/Cystoscopy can be a traumatizing procedure in male patients. Ask your Dr for Valium or other sedative medication for the removal procedure. It will make you much more relaxed and comfortable.

Ureteral Spasm: Ureter could still be irritated and inflammed with resulting spasm. You might ask your urologist about using a smooth muscle relaxant like bentyl(dicyclomine) or other newer anticholinergics which may relieve some of these symptoms.

Via a cystoscope: The doctor will need to look into your bladder with an instrument called a cystoscope. He/she will be able to see the opening where the ureter empties into the bladder and place a stent up to the kidney.

Wrong Anatomy: The double j stent has one end coiled into the bladder and the other going into the collecting part of the kidney.  The stent is not related to the vagina.

Yes: By 'kidney stent', do you mean an internal  catheter which goes from the kidney to the bladder,  or, do you mean a metal stent in the kidney artery to keep it open?  Either way, there is no reason you would not be able to have sex.

Accepted Answer

No: It is recommend no heavy lifting or exercising (jogging, swimming, treadmill, biking) until cleared by your doctor.

how long is it normal for a kidney stent stay in?

Accepted Answer

Depends: Life long (in kidney artery) or usually three months or longer depending on type of stent (in the ureter) and also depends on reason for stent, but is it in kidney artery or ureter as kidney doesn't really need stents unless kidney artery is tightly narrow or unless ureter is blocked due to some condition!
