A few things: May be straining your arch a bit. Try an arch support
or you could have a vein that is irritated there, make sure nothing is pressing, again try support, or you may have a bit of nerve involvement. Take B 6

Yes: The thickening of the skin, poor circulation and chronic ulceration occasionally see on the dorsum (top) of the foot can lead to tendonitis of the superficial tendons.

i have torn the ligaments on the lateral aspect  of my ankle how will i know if it needs surgery to repair? im in a moon boot for now as i cannot straighten the ankle or flatten my foot. i have some neuropraxia also

Have you considered: evaluation by a podiatrist? That is a doctor who specializes in feet.

If the disuse: Is secondary to cast you may have nerve damage from the cast. I would recommend physical therapy. You must get that foot and leg moving. You may want to get a baseline EMG/NCV study and of course follow up with your doctor.

i have an avulsion/chip fracture involving the anterior lateral aspect of the calcaneus.how can i lessen the pain in my ankle an knee an heel of foot?

Brace/PT: Sounds like you need some Physical Therapy and/or Bracing! This kind of fracture generally takes 6-8 weeks to heal!  Hope this helps

been having foot pain - lateral aspect of the proximal fifth metatarsal shaft, for ~2.5 months now. not tendonitis or a stress fracture. i have my orthopedist and physical therapist stumped. worse with activity, a lot better with rest. any ideas?

Mechanical pain: From your symptoms, it is not a tumor, an infection, a nerve injury, nor an inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis. It is mechanical pain and could still be a hidden fracture. An MRI may show the problem.

Yes: A "sprain" is where you tear a ligament. There are many ligmants i the instep of your foot, short/long plantar ligament, spring ligament and lis franc ligaments to name a few.

A few things: It might be a form of athlete's foot, blister, infection, or skin lesion.  See a podiatrist or dermatologist for a more specific answer.

what does one swollen instep mean?

Accepted Answer

Could be : Tenosynovitis of the posterior tibial tendon. This is difficult to treat by oneself s it often requires an orthotic or brace if this is indeed the problem. I suggest you visit your local foot doc for help.
