i get this weird pain in my knees at night time about two times a month, i can't move it and everything it just really hurts like cramp in my knee. what does this sound like?

The meniscus is the “shock absorber” of the knee made of cartilage which allows the knee to move smoothly. Tendonitis is the inflammation of the tendon where it inserts to the bone. An orthopaedic specialist will be able to provide a diagnosis and treatment plan for your symptoms.

It sounds like you: r putting a lot of mechanical stress on your ankle and knee joints.To reduce the pain,you may have to stop the activity that is causing the pain.Acute joint pain is treated with R.I.C.E.( rest,ice,compression( for any swelling with an ace bandage),elevation(also for swelling)).If there is any redness or swelling,you need to c a doc to examine these joints and order x-Rays,labs,meds,excuse to coach

Many possibilities: This could be due to arthritis, inflammation of tendons, overuse of muscles.  If this does not improve, i would see a pcp.

More info: Need to know more..Where does it hurt on the knee and is it one or both? How old are you and how active? Are you heavy? Does the knee(s) do anything else like swell, lock, giveaway? When? History of any injury? How long has this been going on? Any change in activity?

May be structual: Need ortho exam. Xrays and probably an MRI of the knees will be needed. Losing weight would ofcourse lessen the stress.

Probably overuse: Since this involves both knees, it is probably from overuse, especially since only the back of the knee.  Take more frequent breaks to get up and walk around.  Perform simple range of motion activities by moving the knee through full range of motion and stretch at the limits of motion when fully straight and fully bent.  Ice may help if pain persists.  Apply ice to painful area 15-20 min/hour.
