Rest, nsaids: In order to alleviate the symptoms of 
a lumbar radiculopathy, the use of rest
and nsaids is most important.
If symptoms persist, the use of physical
therapy and sometimes a steroid pack
can also be helpful.

Might be thrombosis: You should see your doctor asap. You might have a deep venous clot or thrombosis (dvt). This is usually accompanied by pain, swelling and discoloration in the leg. Left untreated, DVT can cause lifelong complications in the leg and can lead to blood clots to the lung (pumonary embolism). These pulmonary emboli can be fatal.  Please check with your doctor who can order an ultrasound test to check.

Have not mentioned: much history. This is important as it could lead to the cause of pain. If you are still hurting you need to see one now but not urgently. If you are overdoing or running it could be a form of shin splints if on the shin or patellar tendonitis at the insertion Many times it is the exercise or overuse that is the cause.

Be seen: There are multiple potential causes, I would not hesitate to be seen for a specific diagnosis.  Considerations in a runner include: stress fracture, internal derangement in the knee, exercise induced compartment syndrome, "shin splints" among other possibilities.  A thorough exam and history would go a long way in making the diagnosis.

Not usually: Howevera kidney stone bloking the uretr, which lies in top of the psoas muscle, especially if ureter is inflammed by infection, can cause muscle irritation & pain in the upper leg.

Many things: Your symptoms are very general.  This could be coming from your back (sciatica) or originating in your knee (?Arthritis).  If the symptoms have been present for more than a week, you should be evaluateed by your doctor.

: You may have a Bakers cyst but I cannot rule out phlebitis by the way you describe. Superficial phlebitis can be taken care with warm compress several times a day until it resolves. 
If the swelling persists and bothers you, you should see your doctor for a definite assessment.
