i'm 66 & got breast implants in '04. there is hardness now. should i be concerned?

Probably not: Unfortunately, some patients develop firm scar tissue ("capsules") around their breast implants. After 50 years of breast implant surgery, we still don't know why. In most cases, this is not a big problem. If you have not seen the surgeon who operated on you for a while, you should be checked out. There are several options that you can discuss with him/her.

See your OB/GYN: It's best to have your ob/gyn doctor do a full breast examination on you. Often, fibrocystic breast disease is common, and can cause some of these symptoms. However this has to be fully worked up by your doctor, and monitored. They may need to order a mammogram or thermogram to evaluate this further.

Your ok: Capsular contracture can occur with implants. Many people live with some degree of it. In and of itself, the contracture is not harmful. However, if the contracture worsens, the implants may become asymmetric, palpable or even painful. As a result, they may need to come out.

my daughter kayla says she has an unusual hardness in the center of her breast, and she is 14 years old and hasnt started her period, even though shes had symptoms of starting for years?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see her pediatrician and may be an endocrinologist.

i am experiencing  breast pain and hardness even after 1month of i&d for breast abscess..pus didn't stop..daily dressing done?

Need followup: You should go back to your doctor for followup.  You may need additional antibiotics or surgery.

Not necessarily.: Fluid retention can occur with period, pms or pregnancy. Take a home pregnancy test if you miss your period.

is it normal to have a lump and hardness a week after a needle breast biopsy?

Accepted Answer

Yes, normal: It is normal for the breast to be tender and firm at the biopsy site (or surgery).  This is part of the body's normal response to trauma/procedure.
It can take 4-8 weeks for the firmness to decrease and it feel like your normal breast tissue. If it does not resolve, then follow up with your physician.

i am having an issue with breast tenderness and hardness and swelling. i believe i am lactating, however there is no need as i am no longer pregnant. ?

See GYN MD: If you are concerned about inappropriate breast milk swelling or lactation, your GYN MD can perform a prolactin blood test to determine if that is confirmed. This problem, if true, can be treated with an oral medication.

Needs medical checku: Any lumps or knots in your breast require a clinical examination by your doctor.
If there is anything suspicious, he/she might order a mammogram or an ultrasound test of your breast. If these tests show a lump  you should  have a biopsy of the lump in order to make sure that you do not have breast Cancer.

Doctor can evaluate: Breast swelling may come with the fluctuations in hormone levels throughout a woman's period. Breast swelling that occurs more randomly sounds odd, so one can be evaluated by an obgyn doc to see what might be causing it. One should write down on a big calendar any useful details, such as which days the symptoms occur, what activities occurred, what foods/drinks eaten, any meds used, etc...
