Not really : The basic technology has been used in neonatal units for decades. I find them of little value unless the kid has apnea of prematurity. Although sold to quell fears of parents data shows it cannot prevent/predict sudden infant death syndrome. If it gives you peace to use it you are welcome to. I see no negative effects on the kid.

No: Some parents like the convenience, but it's definitely not necessary.   Babies are often sleeping in the same room as their parents for the first few months, so a baby monitor is not needed at night.  The monitors are not protective for the baby (we've had healthy babies for a lot longer than we've had baby monitors), they just allow the parent a measure of comfort if they are in a separate room.

Whenever you want: Monitors have been around for about 20 years. Before monitors, parents listened for their baby and decided what to do. Monitors allow us to spy without our baby knowing it, but there is no proof that they make a baby "safe", nor are they considered important to have. Many people never even get a monitor. Recently there was a recall of a crib-mounted monitor in which the cord was entangling babies.

Personal choice: Having baby in another room helps parents & baby get more rest. Otherwise well meaning checks or snoring could waken baby when the would stay asleep or settle back on their own. Having a monitor is a personal choice. Knowing what i know, i would be comfortable without one. But any parent can make their own choice and stop it when they find it more a nuscience than a friend.

Accepted Answer

No difference: There are old sayings about early to  bed and early to rise but these come from days prior to good lighting at night.  Most develop their own biorhythm and function well within that cycle.  You may have to adjust your times to the needs of your job.  But good function is possible with both cycles.

Depends.: First, be very sure that Alzheimer's is the proper diagnosis.  All other causes for memory loss and confusion should be ruled out first.  See a neurologist, even two, to double check.  Many other less devastating diseases can cause memory trouble. Treatment depends on your diagnosis and your overall health.  There are often ways to slow/manage progression, many behavioral.  Ask experts!

4-5 years: I find most 4-5 year olds have enough conversational skills to understand danger & the virtue of not messing with something that could hurt them. Your explanation of the "hurt" need only be brief & mention a trip to the hospital for "burns" and tests. Most will accept the caution if they understand burns. Some 3 year olds might but i don't feel comfortable saying they would.
