OBESITY: Obese mothers have a hard time moving around especially when they are older.They also have a hard time lossing weight. They get tired easily and they love to sleep.

No: Being overweight in pregnancy does not necessarily mean you will have a big baby if your pregnancy is otherwise uncomplicated, but your risk of having a big baby is doubled if you are obese.  Being overweight makes you three times more likely to develop gestational diabetes, and this condition can cause the baby to be big.

Doctor can evaluate: Persistent heart rate above 100 usually mean something might be wrong. Teens and adults with a bit of dehydration due to minor illnesses, or moderate dehydration due to bad stomach flu, will have higher heart rates while ill. Hyperthyroidism or anemia causes higher heart rates too. Excitement, anxiety, exercise, and heart disease all can raise heart rates. Her doctor can evaluate.

No: However, if the parents are over weight, the child is more likely to become over weight.  Also, if the mother is over weight secondary to over eating.  She may over estimate the amount of food her child needs.

Lifestyle changes...: Even if you are more inclined to gain weight, it does not have to be your fate.You have the power to create a life you want. Make your food choices healthy ones-whole fresh foods, lots of veggies, lean proteins and healthy fats. Avoid high calorie drinks &amp; processed foods. Exercise (walking/running/lifting) regularly - you can find the time if it is important to you (get up 20 minutes earlier?)

Discuss with her doc: The us preventive services task force says that elderly people between 75-84 should not be routinely screened for colorectal cancer and those over 85 should not be screened at all. They are at higher risk for complications from the procedure and may not benefit from screening. If your mom is getting a recommendation that don’t fit the guidelines, ask the doctor his/her reasoning.
