Try Benadryl (diphenhydramine) lotion: You can try topical Benadryl (diphenhydramine) lotion/cream, or a mild cortisone cream (0.5% if covering large area, 1% ok if localized / small areas). Try one at a time & see how they work for you. If neither, will need zyrtec + Pepcid (generics ok) +/- prescribed steroid pills. See urgent care if no relief.

Poison ivy: Please do not put off any regular medical care. It could have serious medical implications for your health! AS for the Poison Ivy, right after exposure, using rubbing alcohol can rapidly remove the urushiol oil from your skin so that the reaction is minimized. after that, use oral antihistamines, oatmeal plasters/bath, cold compresses, and bentonite clay mask to manage the itchiness and pain.

Clinic: It sounds like relatively extensive contact dermatitis from poison ivy.  You would likely benefit from a good exam to rule out secondary infections and possibly systemic (oral or injectable) steroids.

Poison ivy: Poison ivy treatments are usually limited to self-care methods, and the rash typically goes away on its own within two to four weeks. In the meantime, you can use poison ivy remedies, such as oatmeal baths and cool compresses, as well as over-the-counter anti-itch medications to relieve your signs and symptoms. In severe cases topical and oral cortisone are needed.

Possibly: Rhus dermatitis (poison ivy, etc. ) will resolve spontaneously.  Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can help with the itching.  Lotions such as calamine, or over the counter Hydrocortisone may also benefit.  If you have a severe case you may benefit from prednisone.  However, make sure your doctor puts you on a prolonged course of at least two weeks as it is common to experience rebound flares with shorter courses.

Maybe  first be sure: You are dealing with poison ivy. But if you are certain then cold compresses may help...But usually you also need anithistamine pills..The itching and swelling can get pretty annoying. See a dr if it isn't getting better.

Cannabis: Given the multiple drug interactions it is not recommended that you use cannabis during this time .  Hope that helps.

Poison ivy: Ask your pharmacist to recommend a nonprescription cortisone type ointment. If itching continues to bother you, take an antihistamine. Benadryl can be sedating and is good for bedtime. Claritin is nondrowsy and thus is better during daytime.

i have a really severe case of poison ivy, i don't have medical insurance. would it be best for me to go to the er? tied otc meds and creams, nothing is helping.
