Depends: You need to talk to your obgyn who did the hysterectomy - it really does depends on other potential risk-factors in taking the pill (for example, smoking over age 35, etc.)

if you took them safely before surgery, it's likely fine, but you should always check with your doc first.

Pelvic pain: Pelvic pain is complex as there are several organs in the pelvis. The ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, bladder, appendix, intestines, colon and rectum can all be the source. Pelvic pain requires and examination to help organize the evaluation. Right sided pain could be for concerning for appendicitis

i am 37. after being off birth controll pills for several years, is it ok to restart them now even though i was found to have a 13 cm ovarian cyst? the cyst was 5 cm in 2016, so it has grown. will restarting pills make the situation worse in any way?

: With a "13 cm ovarian cyst", see your GYN physician for guidance.  If the cyst is "complex", your physician may suggest that a biopsy or surgical removal is necessary.  Oral bcp's do reduce the occurrence of ovarian cyst formation, and will not affect the current situation adversely.

It depends: There are ovarian cysts that will go away over time, and others that are more serious and need surgery.  Birth control pills prevent many types of cysts, and thus can be helpful in preventing cysts.  They don't make cysts go away away faster, but they prevent some types of cysts. See your dr about what kind of cyst you have.

Yes: Ovarian cysts are generated by ovulation monthly, and wax/wane with your estrogen levels. Birth control pills, depending on composition, can stimulate ovarian cysts, and can make things worse. Best idea is to talk this over with your OB if your BCP's are making things worse, can change the type and possibly lessen any symptoms

No.: The birth control pill did not cause your ovarian cyst.  Simple ovarian cysts are quite common and normal, and oral contraceptives actually decrease the frequency of these cysts.  If they become large or rupture, they can be very painful.  Follow up with the doctor who made the diagnosis.  You will need a pelvic ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis.

Ovarian Cyst: Ovarian cysts are actually quite common in premenopausal women.  (The function of the ovary by nature is to produce cysts each month).   BCPs do not make the cysts go away.  They prevent ovulation, which allows the ovaries to "rest" while the cyst resolves on its own, and no further ones develop.  Should be gone by this time.  Good luck!
