i've heard that one of the side effects of thyroid meds is ovarian cancer, as well as breast cancer and on the minor scale, hair loss. is this true?

No: I assume you mean synthroid/levothyroxin for thyroid replacement therapy.  This is just a synthetic thyroid hormone for those who cannot make it in their own thyroid.  This does not cause cancer.  Typically a low functioning thyroid will cause hair loss, not therapy.

: Ovarian cancer symptoms are very nonspecific and variable and tend not to appear until late in the disease. With your reported symptoms it is appropriate to rule that out, which can be readily accomplished with a visit to your gynecologist and a transvaginal ultrasound exam.

None at first: Sadly, there is no screening for ovarian cancer and by the time it causes symptoms, it is often advanced.  Abdominal swelling, pain, intestinal obstruction, or shortness of breath can happen in those cases.  If you have a strong family history of cancer (any kind) please discuss risk reduction methods with an expert in cancer genetics.

Some benefit from birth control pills, patch or nuvaring. Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud can stop your period in some cases. Consider an endometrial ablation such as genesys hta if you are done having children. These can be done in the safely and comfortably in the office.

Don't worry: Many young women have irregular periods due to anovulatory cycles.  Early miscarriages are common and are not necessarily an indication that you will have problems carrying a pregnancy to term.  Ovarian cancer is very unlikely in a 20 year old, but it you feel a lump in your pubic region, you should have it examined by a healthcare provider so you know what it is and than you will not have to worr

Pubic hair: Your hair loss may not be due to an STD, but rather may be due to an endocrine proble involving your pititary or thyroid gland. See a gynecological endocrinologist

Same thing: Telogen effluvium is likely to affect all the hair on any part of your skin. "Full body" alopecia is not a diagnosis. The important question is to speculate about the reason. Telogen effluvium is caused by something. There are many possible causes.
