: The MRI suggests that the disks have been worn down, potentially leading to inflammation of the joint. Maceration is a process in which soft tissues become softened. There may be issues with the bone in the condyle, which is a part of the jaw bone that connects to the TMJ. Osteonecrosis is when the bone tissue has a lack of blood flow, while degenerative changes refer to natural wear and tear.

Not to worry: Very normal finding in many patients.  If no pain, no difficulty chewing, speaking, swallowing, then would not be concerned.  If it gets bigger (even without other symptoms) then would recommend you see oral surgeon for evaluation.  Hope this was helpful.  Dr R

Temporal: mandibular joint doesn't have a disk. It's common to have spinal disk disease and function varies. Occasionally if there are neurologic complications surgery can be tried and it might be helpful. However most fo the pain occurs from nerves being hit by disk. Not much is really helpful in most.

what does slight lateral positioning of the patella and shallow trochlear groove with min. anterior lateral femoral condyle ridge reactive change mean?

Common MRI : It means that your kneecap sits slightly off to the side on the end of the thigh bone( trochlea) @ 90degrees of bend. ( flexion), and your 'groove' ( trochlea) is slightly shallow on your femur. Very common radiologic ' diagnosis' , seen most commonly in patients w/ 'mild' patellar instability or ' kneecap' pain. i wore a night guard for one night and woke up with my front teeth moved and jaw changed, the mandible is rotating towards my head, will they return?

Maybe Not: Without knowing what kind of night guard or the specific reason for it, its hard to say for sure. Many times when the teeth aren't allowed to contact, the jaw joint(s) finds a new my comfortable "home", which is not always where the teeth tell it to close. Further treatment may be necessary, but i would advise your dentist and probably give it a little more time. The guard might just not fit, too.

my jaw cracks and hurts, does this mean my condyles are wearing away/ i have condular resorption?

Jaw pain with noise: It is possible but not likely. The cartildge between the condyle and the bone is likely out of place. You need to see you dentist for a full evaluation.

Chondromalacia: You have the beginnings of arthritis. The cartilage is soft and eroded but bone is not exposed. It is covered by filaments of useless cartilage (fibrillation). Nothing to do except treat symptoms. Cartilage damage typically doesn't heal. Even with surgery, results worsen with age. Carry on!

Bone island: This is a common benign incidental finding in bones,  in your case your femur(condyle is the end of the femur).  Nothing to be concerned about.

You have: Pretty much bone on bone on that area of the knee and it will grind and hurt with a lot of weight bearing activity.

Nothing Confusing: Eminectomy helps by making the non reducing TMJ  disc into a reducing. It is one of the surgical techniques of choice for resolution of this kind of TMJ dysfunction.
