Withdrawals: Pupillary constriction is associated with opiates & heroine on board body & actively causing drowsiness & euphoria.  As opiates metabolize out of tissues, withdrawal symptoms of sympathetic overdrive set in; accompanied by pupillary dilatation, muscle contractions, sweating, anxiousness, & generally feeling horrible. Pupilllary size will normalize along with dissipation of withdrawal symptoms.

Eliminate: the cause of the dilation. If Opiods when the drugs are no longer in your system your pupils will return to baseline. If due to topical eye dilators like atropine or Tropicainamide the dilation will resolve in a day

Adrenaline surge...: Adrenaline is the principal mediator of the "fight or flight" response. This prepares your body for immediate action. Pupils dilate to increase light transmission, heart rate and blood pressure go up and blood is shunted away from other organs to the skeletal muscles. If this occurring in the absence of a stimulus, it is likely due to hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. Check for Insulin resistance.

Not sure.: If the room is dark when this is happening, this may be normal. However, are you on any medications which may cause pupil dilation? If it persists, then you may want to see your family doctor when is happening.

4-7 days: Atropine is a strong and persistent dilator of the pupil.  It will last 3-7 days in most depending upon the biochemistry of the pupil and the color of the iris (darker is less long and blue eyes last the longest).
