Te difference is: The mount of training, : ophthalmologist are medical doctors, having been to medical school and the  residency to specialize- this is the main difference , in that ophthalmologist do surgery, however this is a big push by the optometric societies to start doing surgeries.

(doctor of optometry) while an ophthalmologist is an m.D or D.O. And completed a residency program.

Not same: Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who graduated from medical school.  They can perform surgery on eye. Optometrists are not medical doctors. They graduate from optometry school. They can not perform eye surgery.

Significant: An ophthalmologist is a fully trained md who has learned much of general medicine, and then has specialty training in medical and surgical diseases of the eyes.  An optician is a technician who takes the eyeglass prescription of the ophthalmologist and the frame of choice of the customer, and makes proper eyeglasses.

Both bad: The dry form is the underpinning to both of these.  Wet tends to occur a little younger and can cause a rapid drop in vision.  With current injectable medication, much of wet can be reversed and prevented from advancing,.  But the dry form underlies it and will carry forth at its own rate. So both are bad.

Much: Optometry - specialty eye professional very well trained to prescribe corrective lenses and in some states prescribe some meds.  

Opthalmology - physician who has received additional training in eye disease, eye surgery.  They are very well trained in treating medically and surgically. 

Optician - technician trained to make glasses.
