i'm 16 . today i went for an eye test . i could not see a single letter , not even the biggest of the snellen chart . what could be my priscription? i unfortunately could not get a prescription checkup for my eyes . i just saw the snellen chart?

: That correlates with a myopic prescription of approximately 3.50 to 4. There may  be some astigmatism present also. The only way to get an accurate prescription is to have the eye care doctor do a manifest refraction , this is when your are asked which lens you see best out of.

: The Snellen chart gives a specific description of vision power if read from a set distance. 20/200 is the power of the largest letter at 20 feet. You did not cite the conditions of your view of this chart, which matters. Any distortion of your cornea by current "dry eye" edema or inflammation invalidates the test for acuity determination.

No: It depends on the size of the print on "line 8" and the distance from the chart.  It is common for people to read the 20/15 equivalent, and not unusual to read 20/12, but the limit is probably about 20/10.

Lowered vision: The 20/200 line (6/60 in metric units) is usually the letters below the big "e" on the standard vision charts.  This is also the level for legal blindness in most states.  It is quite a lowering of vision and means that with the best eyeglass correction, only that level can be obtained.

how can you measure visual acuity w/ the snellen eye chart?

Read smallest line: The snellen chart is a graded series of letters or numbers smaller as you go down.  The uncorrected vision is the smallest line easily read with each eye.  Your ophthalmologist will present you with lenses to improve the level of the smallest line to hopefully get you to 20/20 - the standard of normal.  It is a subjective test requiring your active input.

Accepted Answer

Celabrate: You vision is better than most.  That does not mean you do not need routine examinations, or there is no problems with your eyes.

my 14 year old daughter had an unconcious episode whilst doing an online school test today  we battled to get her conscious, she said she had a pain on the left side of her head and doesn't remember anything else about losing conciousness,?

Needs eval: Seizure like activity will have to be ruled out with the understanding that much more common conditions are possible that are relatively benign. Her pediatrician will be the best starting point to have her evaluated.

is there a test that i can do myself at home or online to determine if i have a concussion? had  fall, don't know if hit head but can't think straight

Concussions are ...: More complicated to diagnosis than just based on answers from a online testing.  Even when seeing a patient with a possible concussion an examination is important too.  If truly worried about a concussion, you'll be best suited being seen in person.
