"gum pain": Unless there is an ulcer problem, a better anti-inflammatory would be any commercial form of ibuprofen.  If the pain persists beyond another week, see your dentist to removed the wisdom tooth to check for infection/abscess.

No.: By the three and a half week mark, you should be almost completely healed.  Go have things checked if you're having unusual pain.

Tissue granulation: After the extraction, if no infection occur, tissue will begin to migrate down the extraction socket with granulation tissue fills in and eventually replaced by bone.  The process may take up to 3 months to completely fill the hole.  Within one week, we should expect a nice clot with granulation tissue fills and no pain.

Questions: Not unusual.  May take months to resolve.  To be sure, make an appointment with the Surgeon who removed the tooth for a post-surgical examination.  Take along a written list of all your questions.  That way the Surgeon can address all your concerns.

Are you bleeding?: If you aren't bleeding, then you formed a clot. If you're asking because you're worried about "dry socket, " you should stop worrying. Aside from smoking habits, there's very little you can do to cause or prevent "dry socket" and it has little to do with with the clot anyway. Unfortunately, lots of myth and misinformation about this has been passed on from patients and dentists alike.

Depends : If you just had the tooth extracted, you should only bite on gauze for about an hour.  If you keep gauze in your mouth longer, you may pull out your blood clot.  You can also bite on a wet tea bag for ten minutes.  The tannic acid will help clot the blood.  Do not suck on anything, smoke or spit for 24 hours. If you continue to bleed, contact your dentist.
