Accepted Answer

Depends on degree: Most burns that either turn the skin red or blister, but the underlying skin remains pink, will leave a dis colored area for a long time which eventually fades.  If the skin at the burn base is white, or full thickness, it will keep a permanent scar.

Unfortunately: Unfortunately for you that you had such an accident. Scars are the body's way of healing and protecting itself from violations on our protective barriers. It's difficult to treat scars to lessen their appearance w/o making them worse. I advise talking this over with a physician familiar with burn management. They may be able to trial some different techniques or medications to help"soften" scars.

Be : Be careful about believing all the hype about laser liposuction.   The promised "tightening" that the laser is expected to deliver is rarely anything to brag about and it is more of an effective as a marketing tool to get your business than a surgical tool.  Although the risk of burning is minimal in experienced hands, it is still there and bad burns have been known to occur.  An good liposuction surgeon can achieve great results with or without the laser technology.  Shop for a "smart surgeon" instead of smart lipo.

No see below: On the 3rd november 2011 a complaint was laid with the asa against the claims being made for this product. 
In essence the consumer complained that there is no peer-reviewed evidence to confirm that the claims for this product as a whole, or for the individual ingredients, are true, and therefore the asa agreed.

Improve, not remove.: Scars cannot be removed but there is a large variety of techniques to improve their appearance, both surgical and non-surgical.  See a dermatologist or plastic surgeon (board-certified) to begin your search for an appropriate course of action.

Slowly: Hi! Yes, burn scars fade slowly over many years. To help, use lots of sunscreen for the area, and some suggest using Mederma and moisturizers mixed together. Time is the biggest factor!

Scars are permanent.: They are the result of healing and are permanent. They do, however, mature, i.e. With time. There are some treatments and procedures that may hasten their maturation and make their appearance less objectionable. Your regional burn treatment center would be a good place to start.

is flaking scars from decades old sunburns something to worry about my upper back and shoulders are covered in small round scars resulting from multiple severe sunburns in my early childhood. they periodically burn and itch and will flake and scratch off

I : I would recommend you get evaluated.  These could possibly be actinic keratoses (see picture at link below), which are precancerous scaly areas that are typically seen on sun damaged areas.  They can be treated with liquid nitrogen if that is the case.  Regardless, probably a good idea for you to see a dermatologist given your history of sunburns.

Spray tan and scars : Nothing bad will happen. However, they may not look the same under the tan as the rest of your skin.

: You are probably allergic to some kind of food or medication. See a Dermatologist for exam and treatment. Don't try to treat yourself, seek professional help.
