Blood pressure: Low blood pressure can be life threatening. Causes include poor heart function, dehydration or too much medication, to name a few. You should be examined immediately and find out if those measurements are correct. Go to the ER or an urgent care now.

Just about any: We often combine beta blockers w/mild diuretics, ace inhibitors, arb, ccb, etc. Many patients need 3 or more BP lowering medications to achieve their goal bp. It's just a matter of choosing a drug from each class, looking for secondary gain if possible, while avoiding side effects. Diuretics are good if you have swollen feet. Ace inhibitors & arbs protect heart in CHF & kidneys in diabetcs.

Any: The low dosage of beta blocker would not especially influence my choice of a second agent except for the fact that medications like verapamil or Diltiazem also slow the pulse as does the beta blocker. So one would want to make sure that the beta blocker has not significantly lowered the pulse.

Most: Beta blockers can sometimes make asthma worse and can also worsen nasal congestion, but there are no serious drug-drug interactions with allergy medications i'm aware of.

Not a good idea: Its never a good idea to mix medication with alcohol. Although there is not a direct reaction between alcohol and a beta blocker the efffect of alcohol on blood pressure and pulse rate may make immediate use of either after the other a bad idea.To be safe I would take the beta blocker either in the morning or just before bed so that alcohol can be taken at the "usual" cocktail hour time!

Yes: Beta blockers can help to avoid episodes of tachycardia, but ultimately you may benefit from an interventional approach to eliminate the problem.

: Please review the premedication protocol of the hospital and obtain an Allergy consult. A CXR , EKG 12 lead, and a Cardiology consult are also indicated.

My thoughts : I eschew beta blockers due to adverse effects such as fatigue, exercise intolerance, syncope, asthma, cognition issues, cardiac complications, and stopped years ago. Many newer anti-BP meds (even use of cocoa). Meet with your doctor
