Q: have had occasional pain back by my ear. wondering what it could be caused from or how to relieve it?

Vague: Need a thorough history and exam. There can be a variety of causes of the ear issue- ear infection, sinus, TMJ/TMD. See a Dr., preferably an ENT specialist first.

Q: frequent singular dull thump in ear cause? occurs a few times per day (few wks) usually a singular thump,very occasionally dual. ear flex can be felt.

Dull thump in the: Ear may be caused by multiple factors. Best to check with your primary care doctor to have an Otoscopic exam.

Q: occasionally the hearing in one of my ears goes weird and i hear a high pitched noise for half a minute. it switches ears. is this bad?

Q: is it normal for white babies to have lanugo on their back/ears? it is mostly blonde, but occasionally has a light brown tint to it. baby was born 40w

Lanugo: Not just 'white' babies, but this can be seen in all races.

Q: 23 male, i got a random throb pain that lasted for a minute on the right side of my adams apple and shot up to the back of my head and ears occasionally. should i be concerned?

: YOUR BODY IS TALKING TO YOU! Listen &amp; take good notes. When does it start/stop? Where does it go? What makes it better/worse? How long does it last? Medication helps/worsens? If you think it is something you eat/drink/do stop it &amp; see. If better, go back again &amp; retest until u r convinced it is something u should stop. Then stop it. Discuss with your Drs. You all will figure it out.

Q: have occasional shooting pains up the back of my neck to base of my ear-left side. recent onset. no other symptoms.

Need eval: Very difficult to assess without more info. Spasms of the trapezius muscle could be a cause. But then there may be underlying arthritis in neck or pinched nerve. Infection can also cause these type of symptoms or just basic headache variant. Best to go see doctor to be sure nothing more concerning is going on.

Drumming in ear: This is most likely caused by the pumping of blood through blood vessels ner your ear.  You should check with your doctor.

Variety of causes: Ringing in the ears - tinnitus - can be caused by aging, medications (aspirin is common), primary ear problems, blood vessels, and more. Occasional ringing may not be a concern, but if it is persistent and related to other symptoms (balance, hearing, vertigo) it should be evaluated by an ent. Hope this helps.

Nothing special: The nerve  [trigeminal nerve] is the one involved in giving the painful sentation in the facefor this type of symptoms..

Many things in the face may produce the type of painful sentation you describe.

cotton ear buds: should they not be used at all or just infrequently ?

For what ????: Ear wax is made in the outer half of the canal & will usually fall out over time or can be pried out under direct vision. Cotton swabs will push the wax further into the canals for kids< ~ 9yo and lead to cerumen packed canals that become painful & obscure evaluation of the ear drum. I encourage parents to leave the ears alone & let me remove any wax i need to during exams.
