Nuvigil: is used for excessive daytime somnolence in adults who have Narcolepsy, OSA and shift work sleep disorder. There is addiction potential and other medical risks for those with heart, kidney or liver conditions. Nuvigil can precipitate Manic episodes in people with Bipolar Disease and it also lowers the seizure threshold. One can become allergic to this medication.  It can cause liver problems.

Agitation: Anxiety, agitation, tremor are most common side effects, one has to be careful with drug interactions as Nuvigil  my increase the level of certain meds. .  in patients with heart problems one has to be extra careful in assessing cardiac function and status before prescribing

Unlikely: The only way i can imagine that Nuvigil (or provigil) would reduce swelling would be for the drug to energize the user enough to increase exercise, diminishing fluid build-up due to inactivity. There is no direct pharmacological affect of Nuvigil on fluid metabolism.

Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) and Nuvigil: Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) is a stimulant. It is used for adhd and can also be used to augment antidepressant treatment. While Nuvigil can stimulate, it is not a stimulant per se. Additionally, Nuvigil is approved for shift-work and other circadian-rhythym disturbance-related reasons for daytime fatigue and poor focus. That being said, Nuvigil has also been used (although off-label) for adhd.

See below: Modafanil, Cylert, ritalin, (methylphenidate) Adderall, dextro-amphetamine, amantadine(??), and to help the OSA at night, try C-PAP unit or dental splint.

The conditions: for which one takes Nuvigil (OSA, Narcolepsy and shift work sleep disorder) might be adversely affected with the use of alcohol. Even with minimal use of alcohol Nuvigil can cause liver problems (uncommon). I would discuss this with the prescribing physician.

Maybe: Nuvigil is a derivative of provigil.  Provigil has been shown to be effective in treating adhd in several well done reports, eg, psychiatry res. 2009 aug 15;168(3):234-7. E pub 2009 may 12. Similar studies are pending on nuvigil, so its use would be as a third line if other treatments fail.

May or may not: Headaches are a recognized side effect of stimulants and may or may not stop occurring. Perhaps you could be tried in a different stimulant. Discuss this with your prescribing physician.
